who we are

Our Mission

Our aim is to build a lean structure that can select any specific injury issue and educate, organize and mobilize existing local coalitions to develop, initiate, and get funded reparatory programs locally in multiple communities simultaneously.

We will manifest this mission through work, strategy, and building the collective will of activist in communities across America.

Reparations United has an aim of unity of thought and action within the reparations movement. Currently there is tremendous energy within the movement at the local and state levels where grass roots action is most relevant. The current level of grassroots action in the movement is disjointed, visionless and harmfully competitive.

Thus Reparations United seeks to solidify unity in thought around the Durban Model through a  grassroot educational component. We further seek unity in action, also at the grassroots level, that has the aim of synchronizing actions of repair.

Establishment of the not-for-profit, acting initially as a project of the Institute of the Black World 21st Century, and Directed by Kamm Howard, Reparations United plans to have a major impact in the movement by;

  • Building a lean, focused instrument of repair utilizing existing local networks and coalitions – removing the need to build membership or develop new coaltions.

  • Educating local issue-based coalitions of their ability to frame their work as reparatory and mobilized them collectively to craft, promote, and get funded reparative proposals in their specific area of action via government, corporate, institutional or foundational funding.
